Allen Paul - Writer
Allen Paul’s bestselling book, Katyń: Stalin’s Massacre and the Triumph of Truth, has been called the definitive work on a crime that remains one of the most troubling issues in Russo-Polish relations eighty years after it was committed. First published by Scribner’s, it has been translated into four languages and became a bestseller in Eastern Europe. Reviews in the New York Times, the Washington Post and New York Review of Books, among others, praised it enthusiastically.
In March 2020, after five years of research and writing, he completed Marching Toward Madness: How to Save the Games You Always Loved. The book examines how win-at-all-cost sports are corrupting American values and crushing our once-resolute commitment to personal and national educational excellence. Every rating of the book on Amazon has been a five-star.
Allen’s book for young adults, From Honey with Love: My Adventures as a Second Chance Dog is forthcoming in 2021. Based on a true story, it tells about a swamp dog that gets trapped and nearly shot, before going on to become a champion of agility, the most popular canine sport.
Earlier in his career, Allen served as a speechwriter in Washington for a member of the president’s cabinet and in one presidential campaign.
Allen earned an A.B. degree in English from Guilford College and a Masters in International Public Policy from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies. He began his career with the Associated Press. He was awarded a Fulbright Research Fellowship for 2010-11 which enabled him to spend a year researching and writing in Poland.
Allen and his wife, Betsy, rescued Honey as an eight-week-old puppy in a litter of six. She came from an area in Eastern North Carolina known for its deep, impenetrable, swamps.
